Mayo Clinic writes that childhood obesity is a serious medical condition that affects children and adolescents. This condition occurs when a child is well above the normal weight for his or her age and height. Childhood obesity is very serious problem because the extra pounds often start children on the path to health problems that were once confined to adults, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Poor self-esteem and depression can result from childhood obesity. A good way to reduce childhood obesity is to improve the diet and exercise habits of your entire family.

The University of Montreal has reported in a news release dated Nov. 19, 2012, Daycare has many benefits for children, but researchers find mysterious link with overweight. According to a study by researchers at the University of Montreal and the CHU Sainte-Justine Hospital Research Centre young children who attend daycare on a regular basis are 50% more likely to be overweight in comparison to those who stayed at home with their parents. Dr. Marie-Claude Geoffroy, who led the study, has said, ?We found that children whose primary care arrangement between 1.5 and 4 years was in daycare center or with an extended family member were around 50% more likely to be overweight or obese between the ages of 4-10 years compared to those cared for at home by their parents.?
