Back to where we belong..

-------------

Avery fidgeted slightly in the seat of the car she had rented to drive her and her son, Dylan from the airport back home. She wasn't really intent on coming back to her hometown, mainly because of the memories that came with it, something she still wasn't ready to face right now. It was only with her parents insisting that they meet Dylan, she actually agreed. In fact she wouldn't mind a more family like Christmas, it was something Dylan had always wanted but with Avery's position as one of the management team in a leading public relations firm, her work load was way too much so finding the time to travel back home was hardly possible until date. Her eyes stayed glued from out of the window just watching the passing landscape, as they slowly neared her neighbourhood, all sorts of thoughts about the past running through her head.

"Muuuuuuuummmm" a voice broke through her thoughts, turning Avery's attention back to the present and her frowning son beside her. "Mmm?" she responded quietly just reaching over to fix the collar on his shirt. Dylan fidgeted slightly in his mother's grip "Are we there yeee-ttt?" he whined, repeating once again the same sentence he had been saying since they had actually sat down in the car. "Just 10 more minutes, I promise" she said with a smile pulling back as she leaned back in her seat just running her hands over the dark blue skinny jeans she was wearing, then fixing the blue blazer she wore with a cream coloured silk top, matched with a pair of white heels. "Do they have ice cream here?" he asked trying to reach up and look out of the window on his side, as Avery laughed a little "Of course but no ice cream in this weather" she said keeping her eyes on him, as he simply ignored the second part of her comment, turning back in his seat "Do they have mint swirl here too?" he questioned with the same tone as earlier as Avery nodded once more "I'm sure they do" she responded with a smile.

Soon enough the car pulled up right outside of Avery's childhood house as Dylan started jumping in his seat, realising they had finally arrived. "Ma'am we're here" the driver said, looking at her through the rear view mirror. Avery turned to look at him, then back at the house as she just nodded at him "Thank you" she said, unbuckling her seatbelt and slipping out. Heading over to the other side to attend to her whining son, she opened the door for him before helping him with his seatbelt as he jumped out and began pulling on her hand. "Lets go mum" he said with a very much energetic tone, as Avery shook her head at him "Hold on a second" she said pulling away from his grip, watching as the driver began to get their luggage out, setting it to the side.

Dylan ignored his mother's request, and began sprinting toward the front door as he tried to reach up for the doorbell but in vain. Avery sighed watching him, as she turned to the driver "Thank you very much, have a good day" she said with a smile, reaching for her handbag just getting her wallet out as she tipped him. As the driver got back into his car and drove off, Avery's eyes averted to the neighbouring house, her smile slowly fading as she remembered who it belonged to. Once again she found herself lost in thoughts about a certain person, but the screeching voice of her son cry out to her brought her back to the present moment. Turning back she noticed the door open as her eyes landed on her mother just ushering Dylan in, and sending one of the help out to bring the bags in. Avery just took a deep breath, walking over with a smile, greeting her mother with a hug and then her father.
